The alternative is the Channel
Tunnel via the Eurotunnel.
Cars and passengers are trans-
ported in drive-on, drive-off
railway carriages between
Folkestone and Calais. Tickets
tend to cost a lot less if
booked well in advance.
Luxembourg City is 415 km
(258 miles) from Calais, via
Lille and Namur, with motor-
ways that link over the entire
dis tance. Visitors from Europe
can cross freely into both
countries, as they are
signatories of the Schengen
Agreement – there are
normally no customs for-
malities at the land borders.
