ANNOTATED ROOM
An Off-The-Hook Closet in Connecticut
A fashion professional created a state-of-the-art dressing room with illuminated display shelves and custom-made cabinets
DURING A REMODELof her
Connecticut home, a fashion
professional with a sizable
collection of clothes, shoes
and handbags added a 150-
square-foot dressing room to
showcase her favorite pieces.
The state-of-the art space in-
cludes custom cabinetry, illu-
minated display shelves. Pink
crocodile leather lines some
of the wall areas.
“When people are out
spending on clothing, they
want to put the items in an
environment that they enjoy
being in. It isn’t a closet,”
says designer Christopher
Peacock, whose New York-
based business focuses on
custom cabinetry.
Mr. Peacock worked closely
with the woman, who is in
her 30s, to create a room
around the belongings she
wanted to display. “She has a
pretty crazy life and wanted a
space that felt peaceful and
calming,” he says. The project
cost around $90,000. Here
are some of the design ele-
ments.

1.The cabinets around the
room provide for hidden stor-
age, open hanging storage,
display cabinets and drawers.
“I put big crown molding on
the tops of them. It steals
from the idea of an old ar-
moire, if you would like. But
instead of having one ar-
moire, it is like a bunch of ar-
moires joined together,” says
Mr. Peacock. Christopher

2.The David Hicks-patterned
carpet, found at a showroom,
was the inspiration for the
room’s pale pink color
scheme. “I liked that it was a
little bit pop art in a way,”
Mr. Peacock says. “I liked the
combination of colors. This
lovely shade of soft pink and
beige.” Stark Carpets//Price:
$57.50 per square yard
3.Embossed crocodile
leather lines areas around
the room. Edelman leather//
Price:$25 a square foot
4.The open hanging storage
allows for pieces of clothing
to be kept in full view. His
client “wanted to be able to
grab things and hang them
on a rack in the open so she
could put an outfit together,”
Mr. Peacock says. Häfele gold
hanging rod//Price:$175.
5.The accent lighting is in-
stalled within “cracks and
crevices” to subtly highlight
particular areas. “You have
this hidden lighting but ev-
erything’s lit where it needs
to be lit,” says Mr. Peacock.
Häfele accent cabinet light-
ing//Price:$2,500
6.The overhead lighting was
designed to complement the
room’s hue. “It is a dull,
dusky, dark pink wall color,”
Mr. Peacock says. “Everything
is very quiet and there is no
one thing which overpowers
anything else.” Visual Com-
