tive environment stimulate creativity? Evidence from Alfie Kohn
suggests that it would. In his book, No Contest: The Case Against
Competition (Houghton Mifflin 1992), he shows that when inter-
nal competition was encouraged within a company, it resulted in
less creative work.
Is the investment industry moving toward more teamwork? I
don’t see much evidence of it, despite all the advertising puffery.
The investment industry still operates on the model of stars—tal-
ented virtuosos who rely on their own genius to collect, assimilate,
and process information and decide which investments to make.
