Hachette Book Group canceled its plans to
release Woody Allen’s Apropos of Nothing in
April and said it will return all rights to the author, one day after a large
number of HBG employees staged a walkout to protest Grand Central
Publishing’s decision to release the memoir. In a
statement issued Friday, HBG said that though it
has “published and will continue to publish many
challenging books,” after “extensive conversations
with our staff
and others,”
company lead-
ership “came to
the conclusion
that moving forward with publica-
tion would not be feasible for HBG.”
The Audible Captions case
is fi nally near an end as the
company and the seven plaintiff
publishers agreed to reveal
most of the terms of the settle-
ment. The agreement notes
that Audible will pay publishers
to conclude the copyright
litigation.
Boyds Mills & Kane
has acquired a
majority interest in
Minedition, a chil-
dren’s book publisher
that specializes in
board and picture
books. The purchase
adds about 200 titles
to BMK, and
Minedition founder
Michael Neugebauer remains in
creative control of the imprint.
Carsten Coesfeld, who has served
in various roles at Penguin Random
House parent Bertelsmann, has
been named CEO of PRH’s DK
subsidiary. Coesfeld succeeds Ian
Hudson, who is
stepping down
after more than
three years in the
position.
