Carpet of flowers

For a real teatime treat, put your appliqué skills into

practice with this pretty mug rug. By Renate Bieber

F

usible webbing makes quick
work of any project where
appliqué is called for, as you
simply cut out and iron the shapes
you want onto your backing fabric.
In this pretty project the ironed-on
flowers are given extra interest
thanks to some free-motion quilting
(or freestyle embroidery) stitches.
You’ll need to use a free-motion or
darning foot on your sewing machine
to give you the freedom to move the
fabric around and create your
design. It’s worth practising on a
scrap of fabric to make sure you’re
happy before you begin!
