the paper template on top of the quilt
sandwich and, using a fabric pen,
trace the template directly onto the
quilted piece.^4

Step 5 Remove the paper template
and carefully cut out the shape of the
sewing kit.^5 See the template on the

Step 6 Use the smaller piece of bias
binding to bind the straight edge of

instructions on binding).^6

Step 7 Fold the quilt sandwich as
indicated on the template, and then
pin the larger piece of bias binding to
the outside edge. Gather and ease it
evenly around the corners, pinning
between each gather.^7

edge, machine stitch the binding to
the quilt top.^8

Step 9 Fold the binding over the raw
edge of the quilt layers, turn the raw
edge under itself and then pin in
place.^9 Handstitch in place, using
whip stitch (see page 94 for a more
in-depth guide to whip stitch).

Step 10 Mark the positions of the
Velcro closure on both the sewing kit
flap and body and sew in place by
hand to finish.^10 Fill with your sewing
essentials and pop it in your bag!
