In March, Apple released new versions of the Mac mini and MacBook Air. The Mac mini was a very

mild refresh; the new models were basically the old models but with double the storage. The new

MacBook Airs, on the other hand, were a significant step up from their predecessors. The

much-criticised butterfly-switched keyboard was replaced by new keyboards with a scissor

mechanism, and the old inverted ’T’ shape for the arrow keys returned. It got a very significant

processor upgrade, and a faster graphics performance too. Storage was increased, and if you go

for the cheaper of the two models, the price is actually lower. Find out all about the new MacBook

Airs on Page 16.

Starting on Page 20, we take a look at the rest of the Mac range too. If you’re looking to upgrade, or

if you want a new Mac and haven’t yet decided which model is best for you, our guide should give you

a helping hand.

Your Mac is packed with interesting features and capabilities. We round up some of the

best tips and tricks for your desktop or notebook Mac on Page 28. Did you know, for example,

that you can make the screen much darker without losing contrast with the macOS Dark

Mode? Or that if your files and folders are scattered about your desktop looking untidy, you

can organise them using Desktop Stacks? Or that you can unlock your Mac, open locked notes

and make online purchases, authorised by your Apple Watch? It’s all in our feature.

After the feature, there’s a series of tutorials to help you get more from your Mac’s key apps. It’s

just the thing to keep you company while you’re at home, wishing the coronavirus would simply

go away. With our help, you’re in for better browsing, more efficient email, brilliant ebooks,

marvellous maps and more.

And every month, we round off with a Steve Jobs saying. His quotes are amazing, and it’s great

fun unpacking them. It’s all in Essential AppleUser Magazine!
