9 Dramatic and Mystical
We’ve further enhanced our composite of Mars getting a bit
too close by going down the Creative list to Mystical, which has
had its Amount slider turned up high, and Dramatic, which has its
Amount slider set halfway and its Brightness, found in Advanced
Settings, turned down. We also darkened the sky (Exposure) and
reduced its Temperature under AI Sky Replacement.

Augmented Sky
AI Augmented Sky sees Luminar move from image editing
to layered illustration. It’s possible to create something that not
only never existed, but that could only exist in your imagination.
How do you like the giraffe? While there are examples included,
and many of them might prove useful, the ability to load your
own custom image is perhaps the most powerful feature.

Advanced settings
Click the Advanced Settings button, and you’ll uncover
some more options. Luminar’s lack of tooltips works against it
here, as while Close Gaps is fairly self-explanatory, Sky Local could
mean anything. It’s for blending the texture of the new sky with
the original clouds in the image, and its companion Sky Global
tries to do the same thing across the horizon.

10 Save your work
As a non-destructive editor, your original image files aren’t
saved over. Instead, your edits are auto-saved in a companion file,
and not made permanent until you export a new file. To do this,
either use File > Export, or click the Export to File button to the
right of Crop in the top toolbar. This also gives you the option of
exporting directly to a couple of online photo hosting services. Q

Augmented reality
Once you’ve chosen your overlaid object, it appears in the
centre of the image. Click Place Object to move and scale it. The
Amount slider controls the opacity. Warmth is colour temperature,
to match it to your original image, and Relight allows you to deal
with colour casts. Under Advanced Settings you’ll find Defocus,
and Mask Refinement if there’s a problem blending the horizon.

6 Further Advanced Settings
There are a couple more useful settings. Sky Defocus helps if
the sky is meant to be out of focus, perhaps as part of a soft
background from a wide-aperture lens. Sky Exposure allows you
to darken the clouds in an already dramatic sky, and works well
with the night sky options too. It’s possible to turn day into night,
although the position of the Milky Way may not be accurate.
