myattentiontothecycleparts.
Ineededtosortoutthefrontbrake,
whichwascompletelyinoperative,aswell
asservicingandcheckingthebackbrake.
Thefrontforksealswereleakingasone
mightexpectanditwouldbeagoodidea
tocheckthesteeringheadbearingsatthe
sametime.
Theforksareverysimpleand
straightforwardtooverhaul.Iknowyou
canbuyaspecialtoolforthisjob,butmy
‘specialtool’toremovetheoldseals

(Photo 1 )workedok,asusual.Itisjusta
prybarwithastripofsheetsteelasa
backingtopreventdamagetothetopof
theforkcase.Thesealsareastandard
sizeandthusitisnotnecessarytoorder
specificYamahaparts.Minecamefrom
SimplyBearings,whoseproductsare
alwaysgoodandquicklydelivered.
Anothernotveryspecialtoolneeded
wasaverylargeAllenkey(Photo 2 )
forthetopcaps.Youcouldprobably
makeupsomethingusingalargenut
andbolt,butwhybotherasyoucangeta
wholesetofbigkeysfornotverymuch
thesedays?Admittedly,cheaponesare
notofRolls-Roycequality,buttheydo
thejob.
