duplexcradle.
BecauseIwasworkingsoloIattached
apieceofropearoundthecrankonthe
left,upthroughthetiepointsofthe
liftingarmabovemybenchandback
downtobetiedoffontheclutchbasket
theotherside.Ithendroppedthebench
downalittlebitsotheropetooksomeof
theweightoftheengine,allowingmeto
gettheMDFandtowelsouttheway.
Withtheenginepartiallysupported
fromaboveIwasthenabletonudgethe
engineintoitsfinalrestingplacewithout
fearoftrappingmyfingers.Hadthe
engineunitbeenanyheavierIshould
havefoundmoresuitableliftingpoints,
butforthisparticularapplicationthelow
loadsbeingappliedwerenotaworry.
Assomeoneusedtoworkingon
Kawasaki’sfour-strokemultis,Ihave
beenlessthanenamouredwiththebuild
qualityofthetriplecomparedwiththe
Z 1 s;theywereclearlybuilttoaprice.
Withthemotorinplacetheengine
seemedsomewhatnarrowerthantheframe
atthemountingpoints.Imeasuredthe
‘slop’andthensearchedaroundmy
washercollectiontofindwasherstoactas
shimstopackoutthegapsattheengine
mounts.FrommemoryIthinkthatthegap
was 1 mm.Disappointing,whenIhave
workedonsomanybigZedswherethe
rearofthecrankcasefitsintotheframe
cradleastightlyasanotter’spocket.Ihad
allthemountingboltsre-platedwithbright
zincforthatnewlook.
