The new year
started with a
heck of a bang if
you are a PC gamer.
The developer of
the biggest game in
the world, Fortnite,
decided to launch its
own online store. As
most of you Fortnite
players would know,
if you want to play the
game on PC, you first
have to open the Epic
Games Launcher. You
then select Fortnite and
begin playing.
Now you can also
select the Store option
and buy not just other
releases from Epic
Games, but titles
from completely
different developers.
This is a big, big deal.
Until now, the only
significant online store
for PC games wasSteam, but there is
another really attractive
option for developers
to consider.
The Epic Games Store
offers developers just
as big an audience
as Steam, but it gives
developers a much
bigger cut of the money
from each game sale.
For us, the gamers,
it also means that
we can access more
games through the
portal through which
we are already playing
Fortnite.available to buy in the
store is quite small,
but it’s an impressive
collection. It looks
like Epic Games is
deliberately selecting
games that offer
something new and
interesting. We’re really
impressed by the
quality so far.
Better yet, every two
weeks a game is offered
up completely free for
people to download.
That is similar to
what we see with
Xbox Live and theexcept there is no
subscription fee. It’s
just a completely free
game: how awesome!
So far the games have
been excellent, too.
Sabnautica, Super Meat
Boy and What Remains
of Edith Finch were the
first three and we can’t
wait to see what comes
next.
We’re not sure if the
Epic Games Store will
ever be able to beat
Steam, but it’s going to
get a lot bigger through
