DID YOU

KNOW?...

MULTIPLE DEVELOPERS

The last LEGO Movie game
actually came out five long
years ago. Wow! We didn’t
realise it had been that long.

Because there are so many LEGO games,
there are actually two different studios
working on them. They share code and
assets of course, but tend to work on
alternating releases. This game was
developer by TT Fusion, who made LEGO
Incredibles in 2018, LEGO Ninjago in 2017,
and LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens in

  1. The other studio is Traveller’s Tales.
It is the one who made LEGO DC Super-
Villains in 2018, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
2 in 2017 and LEGO Dimensions in 2015.

and to laugh between missions and loads where
cutscenes appear.
The gameplay, at its core, remains similar to
all the other LEGO games – which is a good
thing as it works so well. You (and your friends
in co-op), watch from an isometric view as the
characters move about the levels, collecting
studs, bashing up bad guys and solving puzzles
(usually by building things). Switching between
characters is easy and not only fun, but key to
getting past these puzzles.
There definitely seems to be a bigger focus on
puzzles this time, as you need to come up with
your own interesting way of solving them. In
fact, a key part of the game has you locating rare
items, materials and tools at your various stops
across the galaxy. Building up your collections
of these items will give you everything you need
to solve the puzzle stopping you from getting
deeper into space.
It must also be said that you won’t just be
on foot, with vehicles playing a role in the
game, too. As this is more of an open-world
experience, you can see why vehicles are

handy. It’s additions like this that keep this
series constantly moving forward and fun.
Discovering new locations and characters, and
then working out how these new characters
can change the way you play never gets
boring.
If you’re into the film, or LEGO, or both, there
is obviously good reason to grab this game.
But it’s also one of the best co-op experiences
going around. So even if you are not into those
things (what’s wrong with you?!), but want
something to play with a mate, it’s still worth
considering.
