  1. This film is adapted from J. M. Coetzee’s
    1980 novel Waiting for the Barbarians.

  2. Coetzee originally borrowed that title from
    a poem written by the Greek poet C. P. Cavafy.

  3. Joe Alwyn took the role of the Lieutenant
    before departing the project, leaving Sam
    Reid to play that part in the finished film.

  4. Principal photography of this film occurred
    in Morocco and Italy during November and
    December 2018.

  5. This movie is director Ciro Guerra’s first in
    the English language.
