PAMPLONA, SPAIN
RUNNING OF THE BULLS
The iconic and centuries-old tradition of the encierro in Pamplona, Spain is an
event where you truly don’t want to bring your camera or phone. There are
obvious reasons to be unencumbered, (tons of sheer bovine rage barreling at
you, for example), but it’s also illegal to have cameras or gear on either side of
the barricade. So even if you’re not brave/dumb enough to run with the bulls

undesignated locations.
GREEN BANK, WEST VIRGINIA
It’s unlikely that you’d wander into this rural West Virginia town by accident,
but it stands out as a unique location in the US where technology is highly
restricted. Green Bank is inside the United States National Radio Quiet
Zone,13,000 square miles of land across West Virginia, Virginia, and a tiny
portion of Maryland. It surrounds the Green Bank Observatory, home to the
largest steerable radio telescope in the world. The 7,600-metric-ton telescope is
60 percent taller than the Statue of Liberty and powerful enough to operate at a
millimeter-wave frequency in deep space. The scientists at work in the quiet
zone have made numerous discoveries thanks to the telescope, including the
most massive neutron star ever discovered and the Ophiuchus Superbubble,
which is located 23,000 light years away.
