Lighting a Pitched Ceiling
Downlighting in a room with a vaulted ceiling can make you
feel like you’re in a cave. The right fi xture changes the eff ect
to create a more pleasing room. Use a short, wide-diameter
pendant or drum-shape light to uplight the space or to send
light out to the sides to eliminate the sense of overhead
gloom. Or, build in a soffi t or cove and add rope lighting that
refl ects off the ceiling. This kind of indirect lighting works
well for watching TV in a bedroom or family room. While light
washes the ceiling and room edges, lamp refl ections don’t
infringe on the screen. Sway, Progress Lighting
