CROCHET IT
O
ur Christmas coasters are quick to
make and we reckon they’ll sell
like hot cakes, too! Make them
using leftover yarns and scraps of felt for a
quick return on your profits. The coasters are
crocheted in one continuous circle – use a
stitch marker or paper clip to mark the start
of a new round and to help you keep track of
the stitches. Remember to move the marker
out to the next starting point each time you
begin a new round of stitches.
htr: half treble crochet
st/sts: stitch/stitches

How to finish the
coasters
Use the Coaster templates on page 102 to cut
out the felt shapes in the colours specified.
Cut out the felt bases in a colour that
matches the crochet fabric. Pin the matching
felt and crochet bases together, sandwiching
the antlers for the reindeer coaster and
the beak for the robin between the felt and
crochet layers at this stage. Sew the layers
together with a whip stitch around the edge
using a matching thread.
Arrange the Santa hat and beard, snowman
hat, eyes and nose, reindeer nose and robin
breast, wing and eye onto the coasters, using
the photo as a guide. Whip stitch in place. Use
black embroidery thread and a running stitch
to make the mouths, then use white thread to
sew small crosses to the eyes, to finish.
