lutch bags are ever popular: they are
glam, fun and very versatile. This bag
is knitted as a simple rectangle in an
on-trendchevron pattern that will jazz up any
outfit. Choose strong contrasting colours if you
want yourbag tohave impact. Our clutchisbig
enough to hold an A5 notebook or magazine,
making it ahandy sizeforbothdaytime and
eveninguse. It has agorgeous fabric lining
which, as well asgivingit a professional finish,
prevents the knit from stretching and ensures
small items don’t get caught between the
stitches. A piece of strong interfacing adds
stiffness to the flap for a neat appearance, and
the invisible magnetic clasp is easy to attach
makingit an ideal fasteningfor a clutch bag.

Knitting the bag
Cast on 59 stitches in Blue Popsicle, then
follow the pattern chartbelow adding two
edge stitches either side.Knit the edge stitch
at thebeginning andendofeach row in
both colours so that the strands are evenly
stretched across. Work 18 pattern repeats to
create the right length.

Strandthe yarn not usedbehindthework,
being careful not to pull it too tight or leave
it tooloose.

Cast off in Blue Popsicle.

How to finish the
clutch bag

1
Block the knittedpiece. Laythe knitted
piece onto a flat surface and fold the
bottom third upwards to make a pocket
shape (with right sides facing), then close
theside seams. Turn rightside out.

2
Iron a 3cm (1in) seam all around the
lining fabric piece and close the side
seams as you did for the knitted piece. Using
a few stitches, attach the interfacing to the
part of the lining that covers the bag's flap.

3
On the liner, mark the position where
the magnetic clasp will sit. At this

point, make two small incisions in both the
liner and interfacing, then attach the male
part of the magnetic clasp, securing it in
place withthebackingdisc.

4
Mark the position where the opposite
part of the magnetic clasp will sit on
the knitted fabric; be accurate when lining up
the clasp parts. Push the female part of the
magnetic clasp through the knit and secure it
in place on the inside withthebackingdisc.

5
Sew the bag lining in place with
invisible stitches, to finish.
