VICTORIA FALLS 3
In its long course from Zambia down to the Indian
Ocean, the Zambezi River plummets 108 m (354 ft)
at the Victoria Falls. This magnificent waterfall
creates so much noise and spray that locals call it
“the smoke that thunders”. The falls were officially
named after Queen Victoria, as they were first
discovered by a European (British explorer David
Livingstone) in 1855, during her reign.
NORTH AFRICAN MARKETS 1
Markets like this one in Morocco are called
souks and are the bustling heart of every town
in North Africa. Here, farmers sell vegetables
and fruit, while traders sell a variety of items
from natural dyes, herbs and spices, and rolls of
cloth, to fine silver jewellery and hand-crafted
leather goods.
NDEBELE STYLE 1
The Ndebele people of South Africa are renowned for
their distinctive sense of colour and pattern. Their
houses are brightly decorated with strong, geometric
shapes. The women are responsible for the upkeep of
their houses and they repaint the walls each spring.
