The simple repeating rounds that are not joined make the hexagon
appear as if it is growing magically and twisting around itself.

Ch 5, sl st to 1st ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, [sc, ch 5] 5 times in ring, sc in ring, ch 2, dc in 1st
sc, do not turn—6 sc.

Rnd 2: *Ch 4, sc in next ch-5 sp; rep from * around to last ch-5 sp, ch
4, sc around post of dc, do not join, do not turn—6 sc.

Rnd 3: *Ch 4, 2 sc in ch-4 sp, sc in next sc; rep from * around, do not
turn, do not join—18 sc.

Rnd 4: *Ch 4, 2 sc in ch-4 sp, sc in ea sc to last sc before ch-4 sp, sk
last sc; rep from * around, do not turn, do not join—24 sc.

Rep rnd 4 to desired size. Each additional rnd adds 6 sc.

You can punch up this simple motif with clusters of color separated
by trebles, mimicking petals in a flower.

Make an adjustable lp.

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, 12 sc in ring, sl st to 1st sc, pull lp closed, do
not turn.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in 1st sc, *ch 3, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc; rep from *
around, omitting last sc, sl st to 1st sc, do not turn—6 ch-sps.

Rnd 3: Ch 7 (counts as tr, ch-3 sp), *change color, 5 dc-cl in next
ch-3 sp, change color, ch 3, tr in next sc, ch 3; rep from * around,
sl st to 4th ch of t-ch, do not turn—12 ch-sps.
