What’s a hairpin loom?

Ifyou’veneverusedanysortofloombefore,andyou’re

wonderingjusthowdifficultitmightbetocrochetonone,there’s

noneedtoworry.Usinga hairpinloomissimplerthanyoumight

imagine,sounwrapyournewloomandlet’sgetstartedwith this

funandcreativecraft.Youmightdiscovera newpassion!

Step 1 You’llseethattheloomcomeswithtwolong,thinprongs–

whenyou’reusingtheloom,theseprongsneedtorunvertically(up

anddown)andthenyoucrochetthehairpinloopsaroundthese

prongs.Theloomalsocomeswithtwobarpieces– whenyou’reusing

theloom,thesebarsneedtositatthetopandbottomoftheprongs

andsecuretheprongsinplaceata setwidth.Eachbarpiecehasfour

holes,whichwillsetyour prongs in place at two width settings, giving

youloadsofoptions.

Step 2 Inserttheprongsintotheinnerholesinthebarpiecestoset

theloomto4cmwide.Thebarpieceshavea curvededgeanda

straightedge– youcaninserttheprongsintoeither,asyouprefer.

Step 3 Inserttheprongsintotheouterholesinthebarpiecestoset

theloomto6cmwide,againmakingyourownchoice about inserting

theprongsintothecurvedorstraightedge.

TipsThewidthofthehairpinstripyoumakewilldependonthespace

betweenthetwoprongs,sochecktheinstructionsinyourpattern

beforeyouposiitonthem.Youcanuseanyyarnyoulikewithyour

hairpinloom– justpairuptheyarnwiththehooksizerecommended

ontheyarn’sballband.Whenyou’refirstlearning,it’sbesttousea DK

or4plyyarnanda suitablehook(suchas3-4mm).Forthisguidewe

useda lightDKwitha 3.5mmhook.We’veworkedourtutorialfor

right-handedcrocheters– if you’releft-handed,simplyreverse the

instructions, swapping any lefts for rights and vice versa.
