Measuring Names Line Plot
Materials: rulers, half-inch grid paper
- Write the letters of your first name on half-inch grid paper. Use only one square
for each letter. - Use your ruler to measure the length of your name to the nearest half-inch.
Measure from the start of the first square to the end of the last square of your
name. - Repeat steps 1-2 using the first names of 10 classmates.
- Create a line plot to display your data. Mark the horizontal scale in appropriate
units. Give your line plot a title. - Plot your data by recording an X above the corresponding value on the line that
represents the length of each name. - Write three statements describing the data in your line plot.
