Use Percents Greater Than 100%


Find 120% of 75.

Method 2 Write the percent as a decimal.
120% = _^120
100
or 1.2
1.2 of 75 = 1.2 × 75 or 90

Method 1 Write the percent as a fraction.

or 90

So, 120% of 75 is 90. Use a model to check the answer.

To find 23% of 275, write the
percent as a decimal. Then
multiply.
23% of 275 = 23% × 275
= 0.23 × 275
= 63.25
So, about 63 students can be expected to have 3 televisions each in
their houses.

the survey. How many can be expected to have more than
4 televisions each in their houses?
