Little League Baseball
In 2009, over 2 million little league
players competed to play in the
Little League World Series. The
annual International Tournament is
held in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

BASEBALL The distance between bases on a Little League Baseball
diamond is 60 feet. The distance between bases on a Major League
Baseball diamond is 90 feet. What is the relationship between the two
distances?

You can describe the relationship with a ratio. A ratio is a comparison of
two quantities by division.

BASEBALL Refer to the information above. Write the ratio as a
fraction in simplest form. Then explain its meaning.

÷ 30

The greatest common
factor, or GCF, is 30.

The ratio of the Little League distance to the Major League distance
is _^23 , 2 : 3, or 2 to 3. That is, for every 2 feet between Little League
bases, there are 3 feet between Major League bases.

Write each ratio as a fraction in simplest form. Then explain its
meaning.
