Histograms


You can make a histogram using a graphing calculator.

The Moapa Middle School basketball team listed each player’s
average points per game. Make a histogram of the data.

Clear any existing data in list L1 by pressing
.
Then enter the data in L1. Input each number
and press.

Turn on the statistical plot by pressing^
[STAT PLOT].

Select the histogram and L1 as the Xlist by
pressing [L1].

Press. To set the
viewing window to be
[0, 25] scl: 5 by [0, 12] scl: 1,
press 0 25
5 0 12
1.

Press to create the histogram.

  1. Press. Find the frequency of each interval.

  2. Explain why the x-values for this data set were chosen as 0 to 25.

  3. COLLECT THE DATA Use the graphing calculator to make a
    histogram of your classmates’ heights in inches. Analyze the
    graph to make some conclusions about the data.
