As we mentioned, the anode and cathode are connected by an electricity-
conducting wire. As electrons are freed by the oxidation process at the anode,
they travel through the wire to the cathode, where they participate in reduction.
This flow of electrons creates electrical energy, and it has been generated by the
spontaneous redox reaction. Here’s what an electrochemical cell will look like
for the reaction between Zn and Cu2+.
