Land-use forms and production output
The results of the production output are
displayed in Figure 1. The majority of
wildlife establishment owners who were
interviewed indicated that the largest part of
their production output is due to breeding
(33%), followed by mixed farming with
21%, and hunting (biltong and trophy) with
20%. Ecotourism was only responsible for
7% of the production output. The land-use
form that was responsible for the lowest
production output was by-products, with
only 3%. It is interesting to see that 16%
of the interviewees have ‘other’ production
output aspects, not particularly associated
with wildlife and tourism, which include
construction business, being a veterinarian
and a beer brewery, to name but a few.
