WORKSHEET 2.15: EXPRESSING FRACTIONS AS PERCENTS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every fraction can be expressed as a percent using the methods shown below:
Method 1:Change the fraction to a decimal and express the decimal as a percent.

  1. Divide the numerator by the denominator to the hundredths place.

  2. If there is a remainder, place it over the divisor.

  3. Move the decimal point in the quotient two places to the right and include the percent
    symbol.

EXAMPLE
1
5 5

1
5
=20%^3
8 8

4
8 3
8
= 371
2
%
1.00

0.20
3.00

0.37

Method 2:Express the fraction as an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100. This
method is easier if the denominator is a factor of 100.

EXAMPLE

1
5

=

n
100
→n= 20 →

20

100

=20%

3

8

=

100
→n= 37. 5 →

37. 5

= 37 .5%
