The oxygen increased in the light bottles due to photosynthesis, and the
oxygen decreased in the dark bottles due to respiration.
NPP = (Light – Initial) = (GPP – R) = (10 – 8) = 2 mg/L/hr
Respiration = (Initial – Dark) = (8 – 5) = 3 mg/L/hr
GPP = (Light – Dark) = (NPP – R) = (10 – 5) = 5 mg/L/hr
BIOMES
Biomes are a major regional or global biotic community characterized by their
dominant forms of plant life and the prevailing climate. Temperature and
precipitation are the most important determinants of biomes. Biomes are
classified by the type of dominant plant and animal life; i.e., climate determines
plants, plants determine animals. Species diversity within a biome is directly
related to net productivity, availability of moisture, and temperature.
Biomes can be classified in various ways. This book will group biomes into
two major categories: Aquatic and Terrestrial.
