(a) According   to  the U.S.    Department  of  Agriculture,    in  1967,   62  million
acres of corn were planted. In 2016, that number rose to 93 million acres.
What is the percent increase in planted acreage over this approximately
50-year period of time?

(b) Thomas  Malthus described   concerns    about   the different   rates   of  growth  for
the human population and its food production. Use a graph and words to
demonstrate your understanding of the trends he was predicting for both
food availability and the human population.

(c) The recent  era of  farming and agricultural    production  is  dramatically
different from the other types of subsistence farming commonly utilized in
the preceding 10,000 years. List TWO ways in which today’s approach
differs from earlier forms of agriculture AND describe TWO ways in
which this approach can cause greater environmental harm.

(d) The development of  the techniques  that    you described   above   is  an
extension of the Green Revolution. This effort has helped to provide a
more consistent food source for our growing population. Despite these
