  1. (A) The saturated zone is the area in an aquifer, below the water table, in
    which relatively all pores and fractures are saturated with water. The
    unsaturated zone is the part of the subsurface between the land surface and
    the groundwater table. The boundary between these two zones is known as
    the water table.
