    mass of roots to remove toxic substances or excess nutrients), and
    phytoremediation (the use of green plants and their associated
    microorganisms to stabilize or reduce contamination in soils, sludges,
    sediments, surface water, or groundwater) all involve the use of bacteria and
    enzymes to break down hazardous materials.
