Hundred Chart Tic-Tac-Toe
A game designed to build the concept
of adding and subtracting tens
Materials:
Q^ Markers or crayons
(different color for each player)
Q^ Paper
Directions :
- Each player decides which color marker/crayon to use.
- One player draws a tic-tac-toe board on the paper.
- The fi rst player writes a 2-digit number in one of the
spaces. - The next player uses adding or subtracting ones or
tens to write a related number in one of the spaces.
The placement of numbers is relative to position on
a hundred chart. - Players take turns fi lling in related numbers.
- The winner is the fi rst player to have three numbers in
a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row. For example:
Content Differentiation :
Moving Back: Use a hundred chart as a reference. Or
draw a large tic-tac-toe board and place base ten blocks
on the board to represent the numbers.
Moving Ahead: Make a tic-tac-toe board with more lines
and try four in a row.
