APPENDIX B The 50 Most Deadly Common Errors
Some errors are so common that many people accept them as correct—but they’re
not.
For example, between you and I will never be correct. People say it or write it
because it’s so often used. It is important to try extra hard not to make these errors
because they make the writer appear undereducated. These errors are so pervasive
that they merit a special section.
Interestingly, the following most common errors are all taken from actual con-
versations (overheard), written communications, and (oh, what a treasure trove!)
from television news anchors, commentators, and TV audiences. The error appears
on the fi rst line followed by the correct usage on the second. To review any concepts
in more detail, each entry includes the type of error and a reference to the chapter(s)
that addresses the error.
