everything was thoughtfully

more limited, but they had

Count me a fan of the bastilla —
a round of phyllo bursting with
cumin- and cinnamon-laced
mushrooms, potatoes and
onions — in particular. To your
point, I can’t think of many
restaurants that are offering
their full, pre-pandemic menus.
Businesses are trying to buy
only as many ingredients as
they think they can cook and
sell and working with reduced
staffs.

Q: I ’m interested in places in

Virginia that have heaters for

outdoor dining during the

pandemic. American Prime in

Tysons is good. Others?

A: In Great Falls, there’s the

tented-and-heated terrace

outside the charming Jacques’

Brasserie. The food is old-school

(savory crepes, soft meringue in

a pool of vanilla custard sauce)

and delicious.
