  • Find the volumeof a pyramid.

Introduction

A pyramidis a three-dimensionalfigurewith a singlebaseand a threeor morenon-parallelsidesthat meet
at a singlepointabovethe base. The sidesof a pyramidare triangles.

Aregularpyramidis a pyramidthat has a regularpolygonfor its baseand whosesidesare all congruent
triangles.

SurfaceAreaof a PyramidUsingNets

You can deconstructa pyramidinto a net.

To find the surfacearea of the figureusingthe net, first find the area of the base:

Now find the area of eachisoscelestriangle.Use the PythagoreanTheoremto find the heightof the triangles.
This heightof eachtriangleis calledtheslantheightof the pyramid. The slantheightof the pyramidis the
altitudeof one of the triangles.Noticethat the slantheightis largerthan the altitudeof the triangle.
