Abstract

Mother Goose rhymes have been determined to be useful aids in developing educational

readiness in preschool children. First, the rhymes introduce children to literature by helping

them learn to appreciate sound and imagery in poetry. Second, as part of that introduction,

children also learn to recognize the difference between real and imaginary friends. Third, the

rhymes help children create their own contentment. Fourth, the combination of these elements

stimulates imagination. The ultimate result, of course, is the promotion of learning by stimulat-

ing reading readiness in preschool children.
