Our planet
The Pacific Ocean. It covers nearly half of the Earth’s surface.^247
What’s it made of?
The Earth is made up
of an outer thin crust.
Under this is molten
rock. In the middle
is a solid core.
The crust
The Earth’s crust
is cracked into
lots of huge pieces
called plates. The
cracks are called
fault lines.
Mountains and valleys
Most mountains are made
when rocks are pushed
upwards by movements
of the Earth’s crust.
Blowing winds, flowing
rivers, and glaciers wear
away the mountains.
