Orcus is theDemon P rince of Undeath, known as theBlood Lord. Hetakes some pleasure in the sufferingsof the living, but farprefers the company and service ofthe undead. His desire is to see all life quenched and themultiverse transformed into a vast necropolis populatedsolely by undead creatures underhis command.Orcus rewards those who spreaddeath in his nameby granting them a s mall portion of hispower. The leastof these b ecome ghouls and zombies who serve in hislegions, while his favored servants are the cultists andnecromancers who murder the living and then manipu-late the dead, emulating their dread master.Orcus is a bestial creature of corruption with a dis-eased , decaying look. He has the lower torso of a goat,anda humanoid upper body with a corpulent belly swol-len with rot.Great bat wings sprout from his shoulders,and his head is like the skull of a goat, the flesh nearlyrotted from it. In one hand, he wields the legendaryWand of Ore us, which is described in chapter 7 of the

Orcus makes his lairin the fortress city of Naratyr,which is on Thanatos, thelayer of the Abyss that herules. Surrounded by a moat fed by the River Styx,CHAPTER 6 J ll£STIARY
Naratyr is an eerily quiet andcold city, its streets oftenempty for hours at a time. The centralcastle of bone hasinterior walls of flesh and carpets madeof woven hair.The city contains wandering undead, many of which areengaged in continuous battles with one another.LAIR ACTIONSOn initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Orcus cantake a lairaction to cause one of the following effects; hecan' t use the same effect two rounds in a row:- Orcus's voice booms throughout the lair. His utter-
ance causes one creature of his choice to be subjectedto power word kill (save DC 23). Orcus needn't see thecreature, but he must be aware that the individual isin the lair.- Orcus causes
up to six corpses within the lair to riseas skeletons, zombies,or ghouls. These undead obeyhis telepathic commands , whichcan reach anywherein the lai r.- Orcus causes s keletal arms to rise from an area on
the ground in a 20 -foot square that he can see. Theylast until the next initiative count 20. Eachcreaturein that area when the arms appear must succeedona DC 23 Strength saving throw or be restrajned untilthe arms disappear or until Orcus releases them (noaction required).
