NOTE: The slang expression 打的 dǎdī, which means to call a taxi or to travel by taxi, is very popular in
everyday Chinese.

NOTE: (1) While except and besides are two distinct words in English, 除了 ... 以外, chúle ... yǐwài may mean
either except or besides, as is shown in the examples. (2) 以外 yǐwài may be omitted, i.e. 除了 ... 以外 chúle
... (yǐwài) and 除了 ... chúle are the same.
