fàndiàn 饭店 [modif: 饭 meal + 店 shop, store] N 1 restaurant (家 jiā) ■ 这家饭店饭菜好吃,价 钱也
便宜。Zhè jia fàndiàn fàncài hǎochī, jiàqián yěpiányì. The dishes in this restaurant are delicious
and affordable. ■ 市中心新开了一家饭店, 都说不错。Shìzhōngxīn xīn kāile yì jiā fàndiàn,
dōu shuō búcuò. A new restaurant opened downtown recently, and everyone says it’s good. 2 hotel
(家 jiā) ■ 他住在一家五星饭店里。Tā zhù zài yì jiā wǔxīng fàndiàn lǐ. He lives in a five-star
hotel.
NOTE: The original meaning of 饭店 fàndiàn is restaurant, but it is also used to denote a hotel. For
example, 北京饭店 Běijīng fàndiàn may mean Beijing Restaurant or Beijing Hotel.
