NOTE: 毫不 háo    bù is   an  adjective   used    before  an  adjective   of  two or  more    syllables.  For example,    you
can say 毫不奇怪 háo bù qíguài not at all strange, but you cannot say 毫不怪 háo bú guài.

háo wú 毫无 V have no ... at all, be in total absence of ■ 他心很硬,对不幸的人毫无同情 心。Tā xīn
hěn yìng, duì búxìng de rén háo wú tóngqíngxīn. He is hardhearted, and has no sympathy at all for
less fortunate people.
NOTE: The object 毫无 háo wú usually takes a word of two or more syllables. The object usually refers to
something abstract, like 同情心 tóngqíngxīn sympathy.

hǎo 好¹ ADJ good, all right (ANTONYMS 坏 huài, 差 chà) ■ 他总是愿意帮助学生,他是个好老师。Tā
zǒngshì yuànyì bāngzhù xuésheng, tā shì ge hǎo lǎoshī. He is always ready to help his students.
He is a good teacher. ■ 你中文说得很好。Nǐ Zhōngwén shuō de hěn hǎo. You speak Chinese very
well.
hǎochu 好处 N benefit, being beneficial (ANTONYMS 坏处 huàichu, 害处 hàichu) ■ 你惹爸爸生气, 有什
么好处呢?Nǐ rě bàba shēngqì, yǒu shénme hǎochu ne? What is the good of offending daddy? 对
... 有好处 duì ... yǒu hǎochu be beneficial to ■ 经常锻炼对身体有很多好处。Jīngcháng duànliàn duì
shēntǐ yǒu hěn duō hǎochu. Regular physical exercise is very beneficial to health.
hǎoxīn 好心 ADJ kind-hearted, with good intention ■ 她是个好心人。Tā shì ge hǎoxīn rén. She is a
kind-hearted person.
hǎo 好² ADV very, very much ■ 你这件新衣服好漂 亮!Nǐ zhè jiàn xīn yīfu hǎo piàoliang! Your new
dress is very pretty indeed!
hǎochī 好吃 ADJ delicious ■ 这种水果我没有尝 过,好吃不好吃?Zhè zhǒng shuǐguǒ wǒ méiyǒu
chángguo, hǎochī bu hǎochī? I’ve never tried this fruit before. Is it good? ■ 王太太做的这个菜,
好 吃极了!Wáng tàitai zuò de zhège cài, hǎochī jíle! This dish cooked by Mrs Wang is really
delicious!
hǎo duō 好多 ADJ a good many, many, much ■ 我 生日那天,收到好多贺卡和礼物。Wǒ shēngrì nà
tiān, shōudào hǎo duō hèkǎ hé lǐwù. On my birthday I got lots of cards and gifts.
hǎohǎor 好好儿 ADJ normal, nothing wrong ■ 她昨天还好好儿的,今天怎么病了呢?Tā zuótiān hái
hǎohǎor de, jīntiān zěnme bìng le ne? She was quite well yesterday. How come she should fall ill
today?
hǎojiǔ 好久 ADV a long time ■ 我好久没玩得这么 痛快了。Wǒ hǎojiǔ méi wán de zhème tòngkuai le.
I haven’t had such fun for a long time. ■ 他等了她 好久,她才来。Tā děngle tā hǎojiǔ, tā cái
lái. He waited for her for a long time before she came.
hǎokàn 好看 ADJ 1 pleasant to the eye, good-looking, pretty (ANTONYM 难看 nánkàn) ■ 她妈妈年轻 的时
候很好看。Tā māma niánqīng de shíhou hěn hǎokàn. Her mother was beautiful when young. 2 (of
a book, movie, etc.) interesting, absorbing ■ 这本小说好看不好看?Zhè běn xiǎoshuō hǎokàn bu
hǎokàn? Is this novel interesting?
hǎo róngyì 好容易 ADV with great difficulty ■ 我好容易找到他家,他偏不在。Wǒ hǎo róngyì
zhǎodào tā jiā, tā piān bú zài. I found his home with great difficulty, and he had to be out.


NOTE: 好容易 hǎo   róngyì is   an  idiomatic   expression. You can also    say 好不容易 hǎo    bù  róngyì, with    exactly the
same meaning, e.g. ■ 我好不容易找到他 家,他偏不在。Wǒ hǎo bù róngyì zhǎodào tā jiā, tā piān bú zài. I found his
home with great difficulty, and he must be out.

hǎotīng 好听 ADJ pleasant to the ear, melodious (ANTONYM 难听 nántīng) ■ 这首歌真好听,我越听 越想
听。Zhè shǒu gē zhēn hǎotīng, wǒ yuè tīng yuè xiǎng tīng. This song is beautiful. The more I
listen, the more I want to hear it. ■ 他说话的声音 很好听。Tā shuōhuà de shēngyīn hěn hǎotīng.
