NOTE: 矛盾 máodùn is a colorful word derived from an ancient Chinese fable. A man who sold spears (矛
máo) and shields (盾 dùn) boasted that his spears were so sharp that they could penetrate any shield, and
that his shields were so strong that no spear could ever penetrate them. As there seemed to be a
contradiction there, 矛盾 máodùn came to mean inconsistency or contradiction.
