NOTE: 万 wàn (ten thousand) is an important number in Chinese. While English has four basic digits (one,

wàn ten thousand). The Chinese use 万 wàn to mean ten thousand. Therefore a hundred thousand is 十万
shí wàn. In Chinese-speaking communities in Southeast Asia, some people use 十千 shíqiān for ten
thousand, e.g. 三十千 sānshíqiān 30,000. This is, however, not acceptable in standard Chinese.
