FIVE FACTS:
- Although it is the 13th and final installment
of the X-Men film series that began in 2000,
The New Mutants is a spin-off rather than
part of the series’ main narrative. - Josh Boone was confirmed as the film’s
director and co-writer in May 2015. - Filming took place in Massachusetts,
including the capital of Boston, from July to
September 2017. - The filming mainly occurred at Medfield
State Hospital, which was Massachusetts’ first
mental asylum and unsettling to most of the
cast and crew working on The New Mutants. - The film’s release was repeatedly delayed
from its original date of April 2018 – due
to factors including reshoots, Disney’s
20th Century Fox acquisition, and then the
COVID-19 pandemic.
