RAVE REVIEWS FROM THE CRITICS
Whenever Apple releases a new Mac, the
critics share the same frustrations: few design
changes, poor battery life, not enough power
for professional users. This year, the picture
was pretty different. Though some still said
that Apple was “phoning it in” with its 2020
Mac releases, changing nothing but the chip
when compared with previous-generation
Macs, and still shipping devices with a 720p
video camera rather than a full HD camera
or iPhone-style equivalent, the company
achieved overwhelming praise from a whole
manner of journalists.
In an extensive video review, Dieter Bohn of
The Verge said that the new MacBook Air with
M1 chip was the “most impressive laptop” he
had used in years, with the device “exceeding
almost every expectation”. He praised Apple for
creating a device that “not only avoids almost all
of the pitfalls” associated with transitioning from
one processor to another but “gleefully leaping
over them,” though criticized the company’s
iPad app support on the Mac. David Phelan of
Forbes was similarly complimentary of the new
device, saying that “Apple doesn’t do things by
halves,” writing that the Air was still “impossibly
thin, though, it’s true, at its thickest it is slightly
bigger than the MacBook Pro.” “The processor
is the headline development in this laptop, of
course, and it certainly lives up to expectations.
It is astonishingly fast. Whatever you do, it can
handle easily,” he added in his written review.
Matthew Panzarino from TechCrunch said
that the new M1 MacBook Pro “runs smoothly,
