Using fore and for

The prefixes fore and for should not be confused with the preposition for nor with the number four.

Also, not all the words that begin with for or fore have prefixes.
Fore means “before or in front of.” There are a number of words that contain this prefix:

(^) The prefix for often has a negative meaning of opposition or rejection. There are only about a dozen
words in this group.
(^) With the e and without it, we have two words with quite different meanings.
(^) Note that a number of other words begin with for or fore but the syllable is not a prefix:
