n 2005, nine European University Championships were
organised, with 1530 students from 200 university teams
from 26 European countries participating. The numbers rep-
resented again the new record in terms of participation to
these EUSA sport events. Championships were organised for
the first time in Estonia, Germany and United Kingdom. The
first edition of European University Championship in Rowing
was successfully organised in Cardiff, United Kingdom.
The Executive Committee held four meetings, in Cordoba,
Rome, Darmstadt and Wroclaw. On its first meeting the
board nominated eight new students in the EUSA Student
Commission. The Executive Committee Member Ms. Tiina
Beljaeva was appointed as the commission chairwoman. The
main success of the second Student Commission was the
ignition of the volunteer program, which became one of the
main tasks of the succeeding commissions. The EUSA Execu-
tive also appointed Mr. Matjaž Pečovnik from Slovenia as the
EUSA Secretary General. Handball was added as a new sport
to the European University Championship program, with the
first edition decided to be organised in Besancon, France in
2006.
The 4th EUSA Symposium was held in Funchal, Portugal from
September 14 to 19, 2005. The event was organised by the
Madeira University in close collaboration with the Portu-
guese University Sports Federation. The EUSA Board decided
to organise the Symposium biannually in the future.
The Annual General Assembly was held in Wroclaw, Poland.
The delegates welcomed Albania as the new, 38th member of
EUSA; approved the annual and financial reports of the Ex-
ecutive Committee and the activity program and the budget
for 2006. The Standing Orders for conducting the General
Assembly were also adopted.
