Artists use paints to create beautiful images and those paints come in a wide variety of distinctive colors. However,
an artist will frequently mix paints to get just the right hue for a certain subject that he or she is painting. Mixing
blue and green in different ratios will give many different shades of turquoise, for example. Chemists also have to
be concerned with the ratios of reactants that are required for a particular chemical reaction. In this chapter, you
will learn how it is the specific ratio of moles of reactants that governs reactions and determines the amount of
products that can be formed in a specific reaction. You will combine your knowledge of mole relationships with
your ability to balance chemical equations in order to gain a complete understanding of the quantitative nature of
chemical reactions.
