The heat released by one mole of a substance as it is converted from a liquid to a solid.
molar heat of solution
The heat absorbed or released when one mole of a substance is dissolved in water.
molar heat of vaporization
The heat absorbed by one mole of a substance as it is converted from a liquid to a gas.
molar mass
The mass of one mole of representative particles of a substance.
molar solubility
The number of moles of solute in one liter of saturated solution.
molar volume
The volume of one mole of a gas at standard temperature and pressure; the numerical value is 22.4 L.
molarity
The number of moles of solute dissolved in one liter of solution.
mole
The amount of a substance that contains 6.02× 1023 representative particles of that substance.
molecular equation
An equation in which the formulas of the compounds are written as though all substances exist as molecules.
molecular formula
Chemical formula of a molecular compound that shows the kinds and number of atoms present in a molecule
of the compound.
molecular geometry
The three-dimensional arrangement of atoms in a molecule.
molecularity
The number of molecules reacting in an elementary step of a reaction.
mole fraction (X)
The ratio of moles of one substance in a mixture to the total number of moles of all substances.
mole ratio
A conversion factor that relates the amounts in moles of any two substances in a chemical reaction.
monatomic ion
Ions that consist of a single atom with either a positive or negative charge.
monomer
The small molecules which are repeated over and over and make up a polymer.
monoprotic acid
An acid that contains one ionizable hydrogen.
monosaccharide
A carbohydrate consisting of one sugar unit.
