nearthewaterfallseesavisionofOmu’sfall:

Acityofmagnificent,whitewashedbuildingsstretches

outbeforeyou.Sunlightsparklesoffofglassdomesand

windows,yetallisnotwell.Blacksmokecoilsfromfires

acrossthecity,corpseslitterthestreets,andwraiths

circletherooftopslikevultures.Asphereofutter

darknessgrowsoutfromtheheartofthecity,blotting

outthelightasitexpandstowardyou.Youturnaway,

andwhenyoulookback,thedarknessisgone.Thecity

isahalf-flooded,overgrownruin.

WhileinOmu,thecharacterwhosawthevisionhasthe
samedarkdreamwheneverheorshetakesalongrest.Inthe
dream,thecharacterisstandinginthecityduringitsfalland
seesaskeletalfigurewalkingalonethroughthedeadstreets.
Hewearstatteredrobesandholdsaskull-tippedstaff,andhis
sunkeneyescontainpointsofdeadlight.Witheachdream,the
figure(Acererak)getsalittlecloser.

18 .Nangnang’sShrine

Monolithsadornedwithprancing,frog-likefiguresrise

fromtheswamp.Beyond,aruinededificeshapedlike

anarrowheadsquatsinthemuddywater.Bushesand

treesgrowfromitsroof.Atthepointedfrontofthe

building,stepsascendtoastonedoorcakedinslime.

TheshrinetothetrickstergodNangnang(representedby
agrung)containsoneofninepuzzlecubesneededtoenterthe
TomboftheNineGods.Thewateraroundtheshrineis 2 feet
deep.

18 A.ShrineEntrance
Theshrineishometoagold-skinnedgrungelitewarrior
namedChiefYorb.Fourorange-skinnedgrungelitewarriors
wallowinthefloodedcourtyardwithYorbandhistrained
hadrosaurusmount.Onered-skinnedgrungwildlingand
sevengreen-skinnedgrungslurkontheshrine’s 20 - foot-high
rooftop.SeeappendixDforthesecreatures’statistics.
Thegrungsontheroofunleasharrowstowardoff
intruders.Iftheintrudersfightback,moregreen-skinned
grungscloseinfromnearbybuildings,with 1 d 4 appearingat
theendofeachrounduntiltwentyhavearrived.
Thegrungsarejumpyanddistrustfulofstrangers.Atfirst,
Yorbismoreinterestedinscaringawayintrudersthanheis
talkingwiththem.Ifthecharactersrescuehisfavoredsonin
area 5 andhavethemeanstocommunicatewiththechief,
Yorbopensuptothem.Hecurrentlyhasnoideahissonis
missing.
ThegrungsworshipthedeadtrickstergodNangnang.If
thecharactersenterintonegotiationswithYorb,hecan
recountthefulllegendofOmu’sninetrickstergods(see
“LegendoftheNineGods”).
ShrineDoors.Thedoorstotheshrinestandajar.Ifthetide
ofbattleturnsagainstChiefYorb,heretreatsintotheshrine
withhiseliteguardsandbarsthedoors.Acharactercanforce
openthebarreddoorswithasuccessfulDC 25 Strengthcheck.

18 B.ChamberofGreed

Torchesshedlightoverroomsfilledoftreasure:chests

heapedwithcoins,polishedamphorae,stringsof

pearls,andornatepiecesofarmor.Setintothefloorin

frontofanotherdoubledoorisamosaicdepictinga

frog-likehumanoidbeatingaleopardthathassnakes

emergingfromitsshoulders.Cuneiforminscriptionsare

wovenaboveandbelowthecombatants.

TheinscriptionsarewritteninOldOmuan.Theoneabove

themosaicreads,“Nangnangteachesustoserveonly

ourselves.”TheinscriptionsbelowtellhowNangnang(agrung)

stoleaspearbelongingtoShagambi(akamadan).Fordetails,

see“LegendoftheNineGods."

Whilethetreasuresremainintheshrine,theylookand

feelreal.Ifacharacterremovesatreasurefromtheshrine,the

illusiondropsandthetreasurerevertstoitstrueform:gold

coinsbecomedisksoftin,silverdecantersrevertbacktoclay

jugs,andglitteringarmorbecomesrustyscrapmetal.Adetect

magicspellrevealsthatthetreasuresradiateaurasofillusion

magicwhileintheshrine.Noneofthese“treasures”are

valuable.

LockedDoors.Thestonedoorstoarea 18 Carelocked,

withneitherkeyholenorhandle.Abovethedoubledoor,the

followingmessageiscarvedintothestoneworkinOldOmuan:

“Whoeveramongyouistherichest,bringmeyourgifts.”To

date,evenChiefYorbhasn’tlearnedwhatliesontheotherside

ofthedoors.Adetectmagicspellrevealsanauraofdivination

magicaroundthedoors.Thedoorsswingopenifacreature

approachesthemwhilecarryingoneormoreofthetreasures

foundintheshrine.However,ifanothercreatureintheshrine

isalsocarryingsuchtreasure,thedoorsremainsclosed.A

knockspellalsoopensthedoors.

18 C.PuzzleCube

Inthemiddleofthisdustyroom,astonecuberestson

apedestalcarvedandpaintedtoresembleasquat,

humanoidfrog.
